Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site

The day is over. The work is done. Say “goodnight” as all the construction trucks are getting ready to sleep.

Author: Sherri Duskey Rinker

Illustrator: Tom Lichtenheld

Length: 40 pages, 4-43 words per page

Ages: 2-4

Word Choice: With unerring rhythm and rhyme, this imaginative bedtime story reads like a soothing lullaby.  We were amused by the personification of each vehicle and their different bedtime routines.

Illustrations:  The dynamic pastel drawings are playfully endearing and fit the written depictions of each vehicle perfectly.  We appreciated the variety in the layout—full spread, framed and multiple illustrations interspersed between the text.  The unique and artistic layout added character to the story.

Read-aloud-ability:  Though some pages are longer than others, overall this book reads aloud well.  We have read it countless times—due to popular demand!

Additional thoughts: If you are searching for a bedtime story for a young construction enthusiast, this is a definite winner.  We have also enjoyed ‘Steam Train, Dream Train’ another imaginative bedtime story by the same author and illustrator.
