Say ‘goodnight’ to all the toys with this classic bedtime board book for babies.
Author: Ruth Krauss
Illustrator: Jane Dyer
Length: 36 pages, 1-14 words per page
Word Choice: The uncomplicated rhymes and repetition of this book are perfect for settling babies and toddlers in a bedtime routine. The story line is simply a child going to bed saying goodnight to toys and other aspects of the room (quite similar to Goodnight Moon).
Illustrations: The old fashioned style of paintings are charming and match the text perfectly. Though not as visually stunning as Time For Bed (which was also illustrated by Jane Dyer), the simplicity of these pictures effectively engages babies and toddlers.
Read-aloud-ability: Excellent read-aloud quality! The length is just right for young kids with short attention spans.
Additional thoughts: This book is an updated version of Ruth Krauss’s Eyes Noes Fingers Toes. It is also available in hardcover picture book format.
