A jubilant ode to blueberries, depicting two toddlers who just can’t get enough of them!
Author: Susan Musgrave
Illustrator: Esperança Melo
Length: 26 pages, 3-14 words per page
Word Choice: A cheerful, energetic celebration of blueberries. The text is ideal for toddlers, with playful repetition and sounds. While there isn’t a story, there is a subtle progression of time as the book progresses from daytime eating to bath time and ends with bedtime.
Illustrations: Lively and vibrant paintings are perfectly paired with the active text. The characters are cute and dramatic. My kids enjoyed finding the blueberries in all the funny places.
Read-aloud-ability: This book reads well. We have read it countless times as both my kids loved it as toddlers. The rhythm and rhyme are spot on.
Additional thoughts: If you are looking for a bedtime board book that is a little more bouncy and fun, this board book is a pleasant change from the typical saying-goodnight-to-everything-rhyme. It has been one of our favorites!
