A large semitrailer gets stuck under a train bridge causing a traffic jam on the highway. Everybody’s waiting and wondering how will they get it out?
Author: Sallie Wolf
Illustrator: Andy Robert Davies
Length: 30 pages, 2 – 12 words per page
Word Choice: Succinct but sufficient rhyming text describe the big truck’s dilemma, the varied responses from the waiting traffic and onlookers, and the police who eventually find a solution.
Illustrations: Simple but amusing drawings effectively capture the details of the story. We enjoyed the different personalities and expressions persons and their vehicles depicted.
Read-aloud-ability: This book is an excellent read aloud for toddlers. I have it memorized due to reading it so much, and it is not tiresome yet!
Additional thoughts: Both my kids loved this book between the ages of 1-2.5 especially. It is lively, colourful and has a fun variety of vehicles. Often a board book does not contain much plot, but this one does well at conveying a problem and a series of unsuccessful solutions leading to an answer. It is also the perfect size (5 x 7 in) for little hands or for bringing along in your purse.
